My Own Coaching Came Back to Bite Me
It’s like the Universe is having its laughs at my expense.
Hey there -
It’s like the Universe is having its laughs at my expense.
In virtually all coaching sessions, I ask clients to step outside their comfort zone.
Because → it’s the whole point of coaching.
They get to do things that feel uncomfortable and stretch in new ways. Over time, the stretching feels less painful, and they begin to grow into themselves more.
And then I inadvertently agreed to something that stretches ME into another dimension. I signed up for a 75-day video challenge. (You can follow along here!)
To say I am uncomfortable is an understatement. I am so far over my ski tips I am tumbling down the mountain ass-over-teakettle.
Just call me Tumbelina.
Every day, I post a video on LinkedIn based on a prompt I receive in the morning. The prompt doesn’t tell me what to say, but it does tell me what to do.
For instance, “Tell us something you believe or a thought you have.” Or, “Jump right in, don’t start with extraneous info like ‘I’m doing a video challenge and today’s prompt is…’’’
Why I thought this was a good idea, I am not sure. But I signed up so I’m following through.
And suddenly I have a whole new level of compassion for my clients when I ask them to do hard things. (I’m still asking though!) 😮💨
Truly, putting myself out there in such a public and visible way is… f’ing frightening!
I’m 8 days in, and here’s my take so far:
While I don’t like it, I’m not overthinking it (big win!)
Most videos I have done in one take (vs. 62, with outfit changes)
One video I did WITHOUT MAKEUP! → IYKYK
I am not asking AI for advice, guidance, or any form of moral support or encouragement
I am not reworking the actual LinkedIn post six ways to Sunday. I’m just writing and posting the damned video
Is it perfect? No.
Am I wildly uncomfortable? Yes.
Do I like seeing myself on video? No.
Am I doing it anyway? Yes.
And, despite my best intentions, it is getting easier.
Your call to action this week is to go do the thing you’re afraid to do. And if that feels too big, break it down. One 90-second video at a time.
If you need extra encouragement, check out this post.
